Investing in Community

Who’s Benefited from the Kent Coalfield Community Fund?

Since its launch in 2004, the Kent Coalfield Community Fund (KCCF) has awarded over £355,000 in small grants to grassroots organisations across Kent’s former mining communities, including Aylesham, Betteshanger, Chislet, Elvington, Hersden, Mill Hill, and Snowdown.

Here are just a few examples of how local groups have used this funding to make a difference:

Mill Hill Community Group

Used their grant to run a series of mental health and wellbeing workshops, helping residents cope with the cost-of-living crisis and social isolation.

Elvington Youth Club

Invested in sports equipment and creative arts materials, giving young people a safe and engaging space to learn and grow (learn more)

Aylesham Bowls Club

Used their grant to improve disabled accessibility to the bowling green, allowing more people to participate for longer.

Betteshanger Heritage Society

Created a local history exhibition, preserving the mining legacy and educating younger generations about their community’s roots.

Aylesham & Snowdown Youth Football Club

Were able to purchase new goal posts to continue to participate in their local league.

Each project funded by the KCCF reflects the fund’s core mission: to improve health and wellbeing in coalfield communities.

We are now accepting applications for 2026-2027. ACT and CRT continue to invite applications from not-for-profit groups ready to make a local impact. Grants range from £100 to £3,000, and the application process is simple and accessible.
